Industry Council Nomination Period Now Open!

|

In November, the terms of the current Industry Council Members will expire and elections to fill the three vacant licensee positions on each of RECA’s four Industry Councils (12 positions) will take place.

The Nomination Period is now open, and will run until October 30, 2023.

Who can run for election?

All eligible RECA licensees are encouraged to run for a position on their respective Industry Council.

Interested candidates must:

  • submit their candidate packages for review and validation to MNP, who has been appointed as the Election Officer by the RECA Board of Directors
  • meet the basic eligibility requirements and the additional requirements set by each Industry Council
  • provide written endorsements from other licensees

Please visit reca.ca/elections for more information, and to review the detailed requirements in the Candidate Information Package.

The Role

RECA’s Industry Councils set and enforce standards of conduct for licensees in order to protect consumers, promote the integrity of the industry, and to administer the Real Estate Act, Regulations, Bylaws and Rules. Each Industry Council may establish rules setting out the conditions for a person to become licensed in their industry sector, including the minimum standards for conduct and any education requirements.

Industry Council Members attend quarterly Industry Council meetings. Each Industry Council appoints a single licensed member to RECA’s Board of Directors, who would also attend quarterly Board meetings.

Term

As per the Real Estate Act Bylaws approved by the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction in August 2023, the terms of Industry Council Members for this election will begin on December 1, 2023, and end on November 30, 2025.
