Written Service Agreements: The Exclusive/Non-Exclusive Myth

|

Following RECA’s announcement of the implementation date for mandatory written service agreements for residential real estate professionals, RECA received a number of questions about what those agreements are going to look like and whether non-exclusive representation agreements will be an option.

RECA is committed to ensuring that real estate professionals and consumers can continue to choose and negotiate the type of representation relationship they want to enter into. Whether that is an exclusive right to represent or not, RECA is simply requiring it be done through a written service agreement.

We understand the Alberta Real Estate Association’s (AREA) education materials and practice resources will focus on establishing exclusive representation relationships between their REALTOR® members and clients. In addition to other available resources, RECA will be providing non-exclusive representation agreements as an option for all authorized residential real estate professionals. The non-exclusive representation agreements will be available on RECA’s website under the Industry Professional Tools section early in 2014.
