Announcing Candidates for the Industry Council Elections

There are 19 candidates standing for election to the four Industry Councils.

Voting will occur between November 17-23, 2020.

How will voting work?

Eligible voters will use a third-party election platform (Election Buddy) to cast their votes. This will ensure a fair, transparent, and verifiable result. Voters will receive direct emails with a custom link and additional instructions once voting opens on November 17, 2020.

Eligible voters are those who are licensed in the sector an Industry Council represents. Go to reca.ca/elections/ to review the full voter eligibility requirements for each Industry Council. 

Each Industry Council requires three (3) licensed individuals to fill specific seats with different eligibility requirements. Voters will cast three (3) votes in each Industry Council they are eligible to vote in. The candidate with the most votes who meets the eligibility requirements for a specific seat will be elected to that Industry Council in that seat.

Should a candidate be the only individual to meet the eligibility requirements for a specific seat, they will be acclaimed to that seat. Should there be an acclaimed candidate, or no eligible candidates for a particular seat, eligible voters will get two (2) votes in that Industry Council, instead of three (3).

For the 2020 elections, the Residential Property Manager Industry Council will allow three (3) votes each for every individual licensed in those sectors.

The Residential Real Estate Broker and Mortgage Broker Industry Councils will each have their broker seat acclaimed, meaning those licensed in these sectors will get two (2) votes.

The Commercial Real Estate Broker and Commercial Property Manager Industry Council will have one acclaimed candidate (commercial property manager seat) and one seat with no candidates (urban commercial practitioner seat). This means this Industry Council will only allow one (1) vote for every individual licensed in that sector, this being for the Rural/Agri-Business seat. A by-election will be held in December or January to fill the urban commercial seat, once the existing members of the Industry Council examine and approve the eligibility criteria.
