Urban Commercial By-Election Dates and Nomination Period

Voting in the by-election for the Urban Commercial seat on the Commercial Real Estate Broker and Commercial Property Manager Industry Council will occur on February 3-5, 2021.

The candidate nomination period is now open. Individuals hoping to become a candidate for the Urban Commercial seat by-election can begin submitting their application and accompanying endorsements to byelection2021@reca.ca. Please use the subject line Commercial Industry Council Candidate Application.

The Nomination Period closes on January 20, 2021. All candidates must provide their nomination information by then.

Who can become a candidate?

Individuals hoping to become candidates will have to meet the basic eligibility requirements, and the special requirements for the Urban Commercial seat. Please review the candidate eligibility requirements at www.reca.ca/elections.

How do I apply?

Download the Candidate Information Package.

Potential candidates will have to provide:

  • a completed Candidate Nomination Form
  • the required minimum of 10 endorsements from licensees in good standing, five of which must be from commercial practitioners. See www.reca.ca/elections for more information
  • a CV/Resume
  • either a short video (approx. 3 minutes) or up to 700-word written submission explaining why they are a suitable candidate

Who can vote?

All individuals licensed to practice commercial real estate, rural (agri-business) real estate, or commercial property management* can vote in this by-election.

*Property managers whose main property management focus is commercial are also eligible to vote. If you are licensed in the Property Management sector, you will receive an email from RECA before the end of this week. You will be asked to reply to the email if the majority of your property management business is commercial. Based on your affirmative reply, you will be sent a link to the ballot when voting opens on February 3rd.

January 5-20, 2021: Nomination period where individuals wanting to become a candidate can apply to enter the race. Information on becoming a candidate is found at www.reca.ca/elections.

February 3-5, 2021. Voting period for eligible licensees.
