Labour Mobility

If you are licensed in another Canadian jurisdiction or internationally and want to become licensed in an industry regulated by RECA, you must:

  • Complete the labour mobility eligibility process for the industry you wish to enter
  • Provide a current criminal record check

As a new licensing applicant, you must also demonstrate that you are of good character and suitable for licensing.

Eligibility Process for Canadian Licensees

Applying for labour mobility as a Canadian licensee

If you hold a licence in good standing in an industry regulated by RECA in a qualifying Canadian jurisdiction, you may apply for labour mobility under Section 7 of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) and Alberta’s Labour Mobility Act.

To be eligible for licensing through labour mobility, you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • provide proof that you hold a valid licence in good standing in a qualifying jurisdiction
  • provide proof of English proficiency

Ensure that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements listed above and that you have the required supporting documents outlined in the Guide to Applying for Labour Mobility for Canadian Licensees

If your application is approved, you will be exempt from the pre-licensing education and exams normally required for new licensing applicants. The licensing process and next steps are outlined in the guide above.

Eligibility Process for International Licensees

Applying for Labour Mobility as an International Licensee

If you hold a licence in good standing in an industry regulated by RECA outside of Canada, you may apply for labour mobility under Alberta’s Fair Registration Practices Act (FRPA).

To be eligible, you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • provide proof that that you hold a licence in good standing in a qualifying jurisdiction
  • provide proof of English proficiency

Ensure that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements listed above and that you have the required supporting documents outlined in the Guide to Applying for Labour Mobility for International Licensees

If your application is approved, you will be exempt from completing the pre-licensing courses normally required of new licensing applicants and will be permitted to challenge the required exams. The licensing process and next steps are outlined in the guide above.
