Mandatory Re-Licensing Education
From time to time, RECA may require licensees to complete a Re-Licensing Education Program to maintain professional standards and stay up to date with industry rules and best practices. These programs are designed to help licensees provide safe, informed, and consistent service to consumers.
Note: Re-licensing education requirements may change from year to year. Always check this page for the most up-to-date information.
Past Re-Licensing Education
In 2025, the Mortgage Broker Industry Council requires all mortgage licensees to complete a Re-Licensing Education Program. This program is designed to enhance knowledge and practices around private lending in Alberta’s mortgage industry.
The course is administered by the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association (AMBA): Mortgage Broker Private Lending 2025 Re-Licensing Course
Why this course matters
Completing the re-licensing course helps mortgage licensees:
- Understand how private lending works for both borrowers and lenders
- Identify when private lending may be appropriate for a client
- Guide clients on entering or exiting private loans at the right time
This education supports strong professional standards and helps protect consumers who rely on mortgage professionals for informed advice.
Important
All mortgage licensees must complete the required re-licensing course before renewing their licence. If you miss the renewal deadline and later apply to reinstate your licence, you must complete the course before reinstatement.
