All Alberta mortgage brokerages must maintain Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance and fraud coverage in accordance with the Real Estate Act Rules.
Minimum coverage required:
- $500,000 per occurrence
- $1,000,000 aggregate coverage within a 365-day policy period
- Applies to both liability and fraud coverage
Mortgage brokerages must obtain coverage from an insurance provider approved by RECA. To be approved, insurers must confirm in writing that their policy complies with RECA’s Errors and Omissions Insurance Guidelines.
Proof of E&O insurance, including the required fraud endorsement, must be provided before RECA will authorize a mortgage brokerage to operate.
